Christian Character (Holy Scripture)

There are numerous books, periodicals, articles and other writings on the subject of “Christian Character”……with a diverse array of approaches and opinions…..some very enriching and thought-provoking, some difficult to understand and less helpful.

To first read, meditate and pray about what has been written in Holy Scripture, I believe, provides the best foundation for understanding the true meaning of “Christian Character”…..beneficial as we discover and explore other writings from a variety of timeframes, traditions, faiths…..helping us each day on our journey ….in prayer…in faith....believing God is always present.

In prayer,

Deacon David

Called To Serve

1 Corinthians 1:26-29

Consider your own call, brothers and sisters: not many of you were wise by human standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth. But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; God chose what is low and despised in the world, things that are not, to reduce to nothing things that are, so that no one might boast in the presence of God.

Rooted in Christ

Colossians 2:7

As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving.

Empowered by Christ’s Spirit

Galatians 5:22

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

A Member of Christ’s Body

I Corinthians 12:27

Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular.

A Bearer of Christ

Galatians 2:20

I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

Has The Mind of Christ

1 Corinthians 2:16

For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.

Philippians 2:5-8

Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross

Luke 22:27

For who is greater, he who sits at the table, or he who serves? Is it not he who sits at the table? Yet I am among you as the One who serves.

Has The Heart of Christ

Colossians 3:12

Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering.

1 Corinthians 13

Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love.........

2 Corinthians 5:14

For the love of Christ compels us, because we judge thus: that is One died for all, then all died; and He died for all, that those who live should live no longer for themselves, but for Him who died for them and rose again.

Romans 5:5

Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

1 John 4:7-11

Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God, and knows God. He who does not love does not know God, for God is love. In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His only begotten Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.

Has The Eyes of Christ

Matthew 9:36

But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd.

Matthew 14:14

And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and he healed their sick.

Mark 6:34

And Jesus, when he came out, saw much people, and was moved with compassion toward them, because they were as sheep not having a shepherd: and he began to teach them many things.

Luke 7:13

And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her, and said unto her, Weep not.
